Lying in Garfield County, Colorado,
The Stout Ranch is one of the few large
tracts of private
land within pristine government lands remaining amongst a thriving real estate
market and a
rapidly growing valley.
Once the hunting grounds of the Ute Indian, the site was homesteaded beginning
in 1903 by the
Dwire brothers. It's rich, fertile soil and natural ponding made this land ideal
for their
farming endeavors which supplied the thriving mining town of New Castle. In 1994
The Stout
Ranch began purchasing this land piece by piece and as of today has put back
together the original Dwire and Boulton homesteads as one contiguous ranch. Through our
efforts fencing
is being restored, old fields are once again being cleared, irrigation ditches
and ponds are
in use and the wildlife is thriving.
The site of the Ranch is magnificent..... 1,300 acres with pristine meadows,
aspen groves,
and mountain views. Unlike so many mountain ranches, the mountains are close but
do not "hem
in" the land. You are able to look out, not just up. And if the Ranch land is
not enough,
to the west lies the Bureau of Land Management acreage to the north and east.
All in all approximately 10,000 acres of public playground, but only easily accessible
through the Stout
Ranch.
It is the intention of The Stout Ranch to not only restore the land to its
homesteading
glory, but to keep it as a private destination retreat for future generations.
To this end
the Ranch's accommodations will include a substantial Ranch House which will
encourage family
and guests alike to enjoy the serenity of Baldy Creek and the surrounding area.
Modeled after the Adirondack Great Camps, the Ranch House will be a minimum of
5,000 to 7,000
square feet and feature a "great room" with stone fireplace for get-togethers, a
quiet
library nook, fully equipped entertainment room, commercial style kitchen and
dining area,
spa / solarium, and a courtyard flanked by wings with guest quarters, each
flanked with
private baths.
From the front of the Ranch House one can enjoy the fantastic view of Baldy
Creek from the
front porch rocker or head out into the main Ranch through
the stables/polo
field (home of
the private Roaring Fork Polo Club) via the courtyard to the north. There will
also be
several outlying cabins (existing and to be built) within the Ranch.
Imagine... a place for all interests: the outdoor enthusiast, the relaxer, a
romantic
getaway, an adventure. But the Ranch is not totally isolated. New Castle (7
miles) offers
the usual: grocery stores, restaurants, post office, even a bowling alley. For
larger "in-town" adventures Glenwood Springs is 16 minutes away via I-70 (home of the
famous Hot
Springs Pool, Sunlight Mountain, and many excellent restaurants) and of course
world renown
Aspen can easily be reached within an hour ( a little longer depending on
weather).
Hospitals and public services are all within easy commute. Several airports are
within the
surrounding area (Aspen, Eagle, and Grand Junction) as well as a private
helicopter service
in Rifle which can land directly on the Ranch. The Ranch can also accommodate
it's own
landing strip if demand dictates.
The Stout Ranch is a gem in the rough. With our hard work and expertise, and the
interest of
like-minded people, the Ranch can reach it's diamond quality a lot sooner.
THE STOUT RANCH
WITH THE GOAL TO PRESERVE THE WILDLIFE AND CONTINUE THE HERITAGE OF FARMING AND
RANCHING
WHILE CREATING AN ATMOSPHERE OF HARMONY.
